Message from the Western Australian Minister for Youth
Since becoming Minister for Youth I have been privileged to experience first-hand the amazing energy, commitment, passion and drive of Western Australia’s young people.
National Youth Week gives us a welcome opportunity to celebrate those qualities.
Most of the state’s National Youth Week program you will find on this website has been created and managed by young Western Australians. The range and quality of the activities and events on offer are a reflection of their dedication and talent.
This year the week kicks off in the south west with the Grass Roots Festival. The brainchild of around 20 dedicated young people from the south west, the festival theme encourages and empowers young people to find local solutions to youth issues. The festival will be followed up with youth-organised events running around the state throughout the week.
In the metropolitan area, groups of young people have come up with a creative and innovative series of events. Come along to have a chat, find your inner artist, participate in a workshop, go on a treasure hunt, learn something new, or just hang out. It has all been developed by young people and is for the most part run by young people. A highlight will be the weekend market day at the Perth Cultural Centre with entertainment, information, displays and market stalls showcasing the skills and talents of students and other young people. Young people from across the state will also be recognised for outstanding contributions to their communities at the 14th annual WA Youth Awards gala ceremony.
I encourage you to use this website to find out more about the many activities on offer during National Youth Week. I congratulate the young people involved in making it all happen and I invite you to join with me in celebrating our amazing young Western Australians.
