2011 National Youth Week
In 2011 National Youth Week (NYW) in the ACT held 93 events, which involved a diverse number of organisations, educational institutions, groups and individuals. NYW is coordinated in the ACT between the ACT Government Community Services Directorate, and the Youth Coalition of the ACT, the peak body for young people and the youth sector. The Community Services Directorate also continued its partnership with beyondblue this year to coordinate activities with a focus on positive mental health and youthbeyondblue key messages of Look, Listen, Talk and Seek Help.
Activities and events had a community focus on issues of importance to young people, while also providing young people with a safe environment to enjoy themselves, try new things, be challenged and share an experience with young people from a variety of backgrounds. A number of activities and events were dedicated to providing a space for young people to discuss issues of concern, learn new skills and learn how to address these issues.
Events held throughout National Youth Week in the ACT ranged from music, dance and sporting events, film nights, LipDub, art exhibitions, music festivals, science and zine fairs, forums, conferences, workshops to build resilience or develop new skills through youth expos and surveys.
