Carers Australia
Carers Australia is the national peak body representing the diversity of Australians who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends with a disability, mental illness or disorder, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail. Our work is driven by carers’ expertise. We work in partnership with the Network of state and territory associations, research and other relevant organisations, with the ultimate aim of improving the lives of carers.
We believe that all carers are entitled to the same rights, choices and opportunities as other Australians in order to enjoy optimum health, social and economic wellbeing and to participate in family, social and community life, employment and education.
Carers Australia’s mission is leading change and action with and for carers. Our vision is that caring is accepted as a shared community responsibility. To achieve our mission and vision we:
- advocate for carers needs and interests in the public arena
- influence government and stakeholder policies and programs at the national level
- manage national programs and services in collaboration with state and territory carers associations
- identify gaps in carer support and other relevant services
- establish and utilise strategic relationships consistent with our values
- conduct community awareness raising activities
- work in partnership to develop a strong evidence base
- maintain and strengthen our position as the national voice of carers
- foster a culture of continuous improvement at all levels of the organisation.
