New South Wales – A message from the Hon Peter Primrose MLC
The NSW Government has a proud history of putting Youth Week into the hands of young people and the 2010 Youth Week is shaping up to be an exciting celebration of young people’s creativity, energy and ideas.
With over 170,000 young people, 900 events and activities and more than 150 local councils across NSW involved, it’s a great occasion for everyone to help celebrate the unique skills, achievements and strengths that young people bring to their communities.
The NSW Government provides funding on a dollar for dollar basis to every council to support the week’s activities, generate events and assist young people to participate in their local communities.
Thousands of young people will be involved in planning, organising and managing the 2010 Youth Week itinerary. Many have already taken part in the design competition to develop the NSW Government’s fantastic Youth Week website. The Youth Week Young People’s Advisory Committee selected the winning designs.
All around NSW, young people are starting to plan and create their own events or join in activities in their local area. The week will provide a valuable opportunity for many of us to ‘tune in’ to what young people want to communicate with us about their lives and to share their views, visions and experiences.
I would encourage the whole community to be part of this remarkable and inspiring festival.
Visit the Youth Week NSW website to find out more about Youth Week 2010 and what is happening in your area, or contact your local council to get involved.
Peter Primrose
Minister for Youth
