Streetlights
pfranco
“Streetlights” is a song about the infinite array of possibilities possible at the start of your night out and the elated feeling you get realising that anything is actually possible. The song also talks about taking control and giving your all to make these possibilities come true. Within this bigger message, the song also describes the simple happiness you get from just having a nice night out with close friends and escaping mundane daily routine.
Cold & Happy
Brendan Maclean
Written days after my birthday, a party that seemed destined to fail.
Setting out to have a night on the town, our problems started at home. We had no money, no car, and a guy who started “pre-drinking” had fallen asleep on the couch!
Feeling my Birthday was a flop somebody shouted, “I found ten bucks!” (A line I put in the song). Enough to buy Camembert, strawberries and a DVD. So with the TV balanced on the windowsill we picnicked in the garden, under the stars and had a night I’ll never forget.
Lead On Lead On
Molly Contogeorge
Lead on Lead on attempts to make relevant the importance of founding solid friendships. I believe (no matter how old the individual) one should always be open to finding solace in friendships founded on a “fun” that isn’t reliant on substances. Many young people are experiencing the consequences of living too hard, too fast, at too early an age. And as teens move from adolescence to adulthood, they encounter dramatic emotional and lifestyle changes which can affect their ability to judge right from wrong, and good from bad. So how we “make our night one to remember” can often depend on who we choose to spend that night with…
Choices
Sam Levick
This song was written about an 18 year old girl going out for the first time: the excitement of that first night out while dealing with the conflict between right and wrong. This night is going to be very exciting but the choice is between having a fun time with friends sober or falling into the trap of having a drink and not even remembering that night. Everyone around her maybe enjoying themselves but she must think about the consequences of just one glass on her future.
The Colour of Truth
Road to Canaan
The Colour of Truth is about life and what matters most. The song parallels two distinct stories. One told from within Sydney’s bustling nightlife – where heavy drinking prevails. And another recited from the war torn plains of Northern Sri Lanka – where gunshots, screams and cluster fire mark each day. From cultures so inherently different, the song explores humanity’s common desire – freedom – and emphasises that it is not by ‘getting wasted’ or waging war that this can be achieved. But rather, through the embrace and life giving power of love.
