The Chess Game

Alexandra Howard

The Chess Game is a film influenced by Tim Burton and Ed Wood films. It brings back the lost art of black and white silent films with the mix of slightly gothic characters and an ambience reminiscent of a comic book. The Chess Game is quite simply about a game of chess between a chess champion and a stubborn girl who has never played chess before. The result leads to a cute and humorous game in which the underdog learns that if you set your mind to something and work at it, you don’t always have to cheat to succeed.

Once Upon a Time in a Playground

Andrew Ryan, Ewen Hollingsworth and Will Howarth

Two men, two rivals, two cowboys meet on a deserted playground to settle the score once and for all. This ultimate show down sees these two brave souls embark on a journey around the many pieces of equipment in a playground; swings, slides and, of course, the see saw. Unfortunately, not all are amused by the antics of these grown men.

Unison

Mitchell Fitzpatrick

Unison is a story of fate and connection. With no outside help, I shot the entire film hand held by me or using a tripod. It contains original, raw music and expresses a story of loneliness and unity. The motif movement of extension (such as the pointing of fingers, kicks, splits, jumps etc) was used to convey the repetitive reach for hope, and the opposite motif (clenched fist) shows the withdrawn loneliness, Using Final Cut Pro for the first time I was happy to experiment with multiple screen work. I am proud to have created a linear story without dialogue.

Tagline: Same feeling. Same time. Same place. Together. Unison.

In simple, guy sees girl, they are able to dance together in unison through their connected feeling, and they end up meeting at the end.

Make Your Move

Andrew Pearce

‘Make Your Move’ is more of a dramatised community service announcement rather than a short film; communicating the consequences of global warming through he means of great drama. The film concludes with a simple strategy, providing viewers with an opportunity to make their move on a global issue.

Speechless

Thomas Mckeith

Speechless is about a guy who likes to pretend he’s a wicked dude but secretly listens to John Mayer music and has trouble talking to girls. It’s the second short film I’ve directed and stars a few of my friends from uni. It was shot on a video camera borrowed from my Dad’s work and edited between uni classes on a friend’s computer.
