Sometimes

Molly Contogeorge

Sometimes incorporates the theme of Always searching through the representation of an internal struggle. I’m referring to a longing to better oneself; to the search for an alternative to the life currently being led. As is the issue with most teens, these feelings may give rise to jealousy and the desire to mimic the lifestyle of someone else. The mood of the song isn’t melancholy because searching for your own purpose in life should be an exciting adventure. As is with most things, it takes time to realise that not all of life’s answers will come to you at once…if ever! But, as the saying goes…“Seek and you shall find.”

The Absence

Nikki Malvar

This song is a dedication to all missing people. Its format is essentially a sung letter to those who have gone missing. It discusses the plight of the families and friends in dealing with the unexplainable loss of a loved one, and the uncertainty that surrounds an instance. While on the surface, the song seems sad, the repetition of the words “we’re waiting” is a semblance of optimism. It serves as a reminder that everyone still remains hopeful for their loved one’s return.

Out of Sight

Brookman and Fil-osopher

Out of Sight follows the story of a young female separated from her family and forced to fend for herself in a modern metropolis. Desperation leads her down a dark road where survival tears the moral fabric of this young youth. Living in such circumstance, detached from her former life, she proceeds down a spiralling cycle transforming her to the point where she’s become a stranger to herself and non-existent in the eyes of her peers. Juxtaposed to her plight, her family and friends who once knew her are haunted by the unknown and fearful of what the truth of her whereabouts will hold. Even when the ones we love are ‘out of sight’ whether physically or emotionally, they are never forgotten by the ones they leave behind.

Give it Up

The Ivys

This song is about a search for acceptance. People simply want to be valued for who they are, not unjustly compared to more successful or popular people. This is a theme song for all those who feel betrayed by so-called friends. It is about a search for true friendship cased on more than shallow judgements. It is a plea for relevance in a world that seems to value all that is not really important.

Running Away

Midnight Ablaze

Running Away is a song written by the band about a young person that is dealing with one or more serious issues within their life. Through their insecurity and inexperience running away is the only way they feel they can cope with the burden and are intent on not being tracked down and found. They are unaware of the impact this is having on family or friends. The fast paced and somewhat eerie nature of the song represents the thought process of the young mind. The message of the song is that whatever the issue a young person is having is that there is always an organisation or someone out there that can help.
