The Jump
Christine Le
With this design I wanted to create something that was fun, colourful and energetic.
The message behind my design is don’t be afraid of what people might think of you but instead embrace who you really are. The image of jumping up into the sky is to show not only the liberty and freedom about being who you are but more importantly having confidence in yourself.
This was made in Photoshop using a combination of stock images, gradients for the light effects and the pen tool to draw the tear drop shapes.
It's The Inside That Counts
Kadir Kiraz
This visual communicates the idea that being beautiful isn’t so much something that can be seen on the inside, but something that shapes a person, such as experiences and people. It makes beauty more than skin deep and gives it a timeless meaning. Our individualism and experiences make us who we are. By being ourselves and expressing our individualism we become beautiful in a way which inspires others to do the same.
Just Be Yourself
Shelley Roach
I addressed the topic “Be Beautiful. Be Yourself.” by using a magazine cover design to comment on the media’s perception of beauty and the idea that to be beautiful you must also be similar. My design encourages uniqueness in style and appearance in order to show personality. The “unique pen” has scribbled over a magazine cover to show aspects of the cover girl’s character.
Be yourself. Be Beautiful
Dilshani Jayawardene
I feel being yourself and being beautiful is largely based around the idea of being happy with who you are, and the inner side of your personality instead of the external and physical component of a person, which seems to be the larger focus in today’s society. When thinking about the brief ‘Be yourself Be Beautiful’, I associated words such as: Love yourself, inner beauty, confidence, embracing who you are, being comfortable with who you are, which results in self happiness. The concept for this design was based around the idea of someone looking for guidance. I chose to illustrate a faceless person, as an anonymous identity looking up at the balloons, one which has words that are associated with the emotions and thoughts of being yourself and letting your personal beauty out. I used a combination of illustration, fabric materials and font to create my design.
Image 2

I have tried to express beauty in defining character, originality and individuality as beautiful. I have tried to show that in being able to accept and appreciate your differences or ‘faults’ and use them to your advantage, such as the three legged girl, you are beautiful. There’s also an emphasis on showing yourself so that others can appreciate your beauty and not hiding parts of yourself just to fit in. Image 2 is more about being able to accept all aspects of your character as beautiful even your monsters.
